"Comparison of logical concepts for test automation: Capture Replay and Keyword Driven"
In today's fast-paced world, companies need to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to producing reliable and secure software. One key element of achieving this is through effective quality management and test automation.
In this study, I focus on the challenges that companies face when it comes to implementing test automation, particularly the high costs and complexities that often come with it. I also explore the different software options available in the market and the pros and cons of each, to help companies make informed decisions about which system best suits their needs.
Furthermore, I delve into the two key concepts of test automation, Capture Replay and Keyword Driven, and provide a detailed comparison of their effectiveness in achieving successful test automation. Through my research, I provide practical recommendations for companies on which concept to use in which specific scenario.
Finally, I apply my findings to a real-world case study, examining the test automation practices of the Rola Security Solutions GmbH and providing an in-depth analysis of their current approach, as well as recommendations for improvement.
Short Summary
In this study, the focus is on quality management and test automation, which are essential components of any business. Successful testing of software is crucial and often the last step before release. However, whether manual or automated, testing software requires high costs. According to Raffi Margaliot and Micro Focus Senior Vice President and General Manager for Application Delivery Management, "Testing and automation are critical factors for reliable and secure software delivery, but teams still struggle with the associated costs and complexities" (World Quality Report 2019).Many test software systems are available on the market, but companies often do not know which system is suitable for their needs. Each concept and software has advantages and disadvantages that can reduce or increase costs and effort through incorrect use. The trend shows that successful testing and test automation have become essential components of quality management. The World Quality Report (WQR) from 2019 states that "79% of German respondents reported an increase in proportional costs and expenses for QS and test activities in the last three years. In the next three years, they expect the share of tests in their overall IT budget to be 31%" (it-Daily.net - Fachmagazin).
Test automation can supplement or even completely replace manual testing. Generically reproducible test automation through robotics and self-executing tests would not contradict any budget constraints, saving time and cost. The primary question companies must ask is which software and concept best suit their needs to increase efficiency within their quality assurance with an eye on the trend and future of software development.
The goal of this practical work is to provide a knowledge-based and well-founded comparison of the Capture Replay and Keyword Driven concepts concerning successful test automation. The study provides a clear definition of each concept and its underlying principles to compare them better. This work's practical part focuses on the Rola Security Solutions GmbH and the Tosca software as a test-automation software system. It presents an analysis of the current test automation system of the Rola Security Solutions GmbH and the proposed new system. The study recommends which concept to use in which situation to achieve the best results.
